“Majority” of Sharkmob London studio hit by layoffs

Sharkmob London has laid off nearly all of its workers after the corporate cancelled an unannounced recreation the staff was engaged on.
A spokesperson from Tencent, which owns the sudio, confirmed to PocketGamer.biz there had been a discount in headcount, however didn’t specify what number of workers have been affected. A number of workers on social media have said that a lot of the staff has been made redundant.
Sharkmob’s Malmo workplace stays in operation and is at present engaged on PC and console title Exoborne.
“Consistent with many studios, Sharkmob has been impacted by the troublesome situations throughout the video gaming market,” learn a press release from Tencent.
“In consequence, regrettably, Sharkmob has needed to make a discount in headcount in its London workplace. Tencent stays dedicated to Sharkmob and the launch of its upcoming recreation, Exoborne.”
Studio historical past
GamesIndustry.biz reported final month that Sharkmob’s London studio was going through layoffs observe a recreation cancellation. On the time, a spokesperson mentioned the corporate was coming into a session interval and aimed to “attempt to minimise this influence”.
It’s not clear what the longer term holds for the London studio. The corporate was based in Malmo in 2017 and later opened its workplace within the UK capital in 2020.
In 2019, Chinese language publishing big Tencent acquired Sharkmob for an undisclosed charge. Sharkmob has labored on titles like Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodhunt, which launched in 2020.
